Last week we sent an email about changes and improvements to your hosting service. Unfortunately, we didn’t do a great job of making it clear exactly what was happening to your Ruby plan, so we’re sending this email to make things clearer. 

The Ruby plan hasn’t cost more than £9.99/month since before 2010! That’s quite the run! Sadly, inflation and costs over the same time period haven’t stood still so we need to put prices up. We’ve increased prices 10.1%, well below inflation during the same period. However, we’re not just increasing our prices, we’ve massively improved the technology and support behind the service too. 

We’re in the process of upgrading everyone to our ultra-fast in-house cloud platform, Katapult. As part of this process we’ve reviewed all of our plans and AUP to maximise performance. 

The new Ruby plan has smaller storage and addon limits than your current Ruby plan but it's more performant, resilient and reliable. We think this is the right direction for businesses. We got rid of the Resource Boost feature, replacing it instead with a permanent extra 1GB of RAM. 

To make the transition easier we’re going to honour any existing addon domains you have whilever they’re in place. We’re also offering existing clients a free 6 month upgrade on the Emerald plan, if that’s the direction you’d like to go (more details below). 

What’s happening to my account?

Your plan will change on your next renewal on or after October 1st 2023, and how it changes depends on how much storage space you’re using; 

1. If you are using LESS than 25GB of storage you’ll be automatically upgraded to the new Ruby plan and pricing.
   
   This will double the RAM, improving performance. 

2. If you are using MORE than 25GB of storage you’ll just be moved to the new pricing as moving you to the new plan would cause over-quota issues.
   
   You can either reduce disk usage below 25GB, see our handy guide here, or you may want to consider upgrading to the new Emerald business plan, see below.
